St Petersburg, Russia, is serviced by Pulkovo Airport which is sixteen kilometres outside the city. Pulkovo is an international airport and was originally known as Shosseynaya Airport. The construction on the airport building started in January 1931 and construction ceased on 24 June 1932. The airport received their first landing on the very same day the construction was completed. The first flight to touch down in St Petersburg, at the Shosseynaya Airport, was a flight from Moscow carrying mail and passengers.
